Western Hills

welcome

Western Hills Magnet Elementary students enjoy weekly snacks of fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the school year. Every year our principal, Mrs. Schmid, applies for a grant through the Department of Education for the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program. Western Hills is fortunate to continue receiving this grant, which allows children to enjoy produce they may never have tried before. Many students have the opportunity to begin making healthier food choices by sampling a variety of fruits and vegetables.

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

Welcome to Western Hills Fresh Fruits and Vegetables blog site.  Every week, during the school year, our students will be introduced to all kinds of fruits and vegetables.  Some of the produce they have never tasted before and some they can’t wait to try again. Students will be able to research facts and information and post to the blog so school mates, family, and friends can learn along with them.

Some of the delicious treats this year include:  tangerines, clementines, Daikon radishes, red radishes, zucchini, cucumbers, yellow and red carrots, mango, papaya, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, nectarines, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, apples, and oranges.

Watch for the happy smiling faces of our students biting into healthy yummy snacks provided each week starting in August.
